What Is A Greek Yogurt Smoothie?
A Greek yogurt smoothie is exactly what it sounds like, a delicious smoothie made with Greek yogurt!
It's full of probiotics, fiber, protein, and healthy fats, all of which will help keep you fuller longer. This smoothie is a great breakfast for busy adults, but it's also good for picky kids when you want to ensure they're getting nutrition.
The mixed berries and bananas blend together to make a sweet, fruity smoothie that is guaranteed to be loved by all. You don't even taste the Greek yogurt or ground flaxseed, they just blend right in for added nutrients.
Key Ingredients and Substitutions
*full ingredients list and measurements can be found in recipe carb below*

- Frozen fruit: I make mine with a frozen berry mix, but you can use all one berry like strawberries or raspberries or even a tropical blend if you'd prefer
- Banana: Bananas are great to add to smoothies because they're a good source of carbs and potassium. Frozen bananas are best, but in a pinch you can use an regular one
- Greek yogurt: It wouldn't be a Greek yogurt smoothie without Greek yogurt! I prefer to use plain, whole milk yogurt, but non-fat or a flavored one will also work. You could also make this with a non-dairy Greek yogurt alternative if you're dairy free
- Maple syrup: Sometimes I like to add a little sweetener if the berries are rather tart. You can use maple syrup, honey, or even a date or two if you'd like
- Ground flaxseed: This is a completely optional ingredient, but I like to add it because the flaxseed is a good source of fiber
- Almond milk: My smoothies are usually made with almond milk because it's what I have on hand, however any non-dairy milk or even cow's milk will work

- Seeds: Chia, hemp, or sunflower seeds are great sources of nutrition and can help boost the protein and fiber content
- Nut butters: Peanut, almond, or cashew butter are all sources of healthy fats
- Protein powder: The Greek yogurt does add a good bit of protein, but if you really want to up the protein add your favorite powder! Vanilla tastes really good in this smoothie
- Cauliflower rice: You won't even taste it, but cauliflower rice adds a ton of vitamins and minerals

Make-Ahead Smoothie Tips
Absolutely nothing beats a fresh Greek yogurt smoothie, but if you're looking to save time in the morning or have smoothie prepped as a healthy snack give one of these methods a try:
- Meal prep your ingredients: Measure out the frozen berries, bananas, and ground flaxseed into a freezer safe bag and keep the freezer. When you're ready to make a smoothie, pull out a bag, dump ingredients into the blender, add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.

Allergy Friendly Ingredient Swaps
This smoothie is pretty versatile and ingredients can be swapped to make it allergy or diet friendly. Here's some ideas:
- Dairy Free/ vegan: Substitute the Greek yogurt with a non-dairy alternative
- Nut free: Instead of almond milk, use oat milk or cow's milk
- Flaxseed allergy: Omit entirely or replace with chia or hemp seeds
Expert Tips
- Use frozen fruit: By using both frozen berries and bananas you'll blend up the thickest, creamiest smoothie
- Freeze your own fruit: If your local grocery store has fruit on sale, buy it and freeze yourself to save money
- Sweetener needed: You may want more or less sweetener depending on how tart the fruit is. You don't need it at all, I just like it sometimes

Frequently Asked Questions
YES! Adding yogurt to smoothies makes it so thick and creamy, and also adds a nice boost of protein and healthy fats which will keep you full and satisfied.
You can use any kind you like. Personally, I like to use plain, whole milk Greek yogurt because it adds a healthy fat and keeps me fuller longer. However, you can use non-fat or even a flavor if you prefer.
The flavor of the fruit over powers the Greek yogurt and you can hardly even taste it. It more just adds creaminess and protein to the smoothie.
