Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Sugar free lemonade is the best drink around! You only need 3 ingredients, and 10 minutes to make this healthy, refreshing drink. Ditch the sugar loaded, store-bought bottle, and make this easy homemade lemonade instead!

As a kid, lemonade was always one of my go-to drinks. I would get it as a treat in the mall, from Chick-fil A with my chicken nuggets, or be drinking it with friends when we had a pool party. I loved the bright, tart, refreshing taste of lemonade, and would drink multiple glasses of it!

Now that I'm older, I still love lemonade, but I'm not always a huge fan of the high sugar content. Did you know that the average 1 cup serving of lemonade has 25 grams of sugar in it? That's 6 teaspoons of sugar in one cup of this delicious drink. Um, I think we can do better....and I did!

I created an incredible sweet, bright, amazing homemade lemonade that is completely sugar free. It's quick, easy, and you only need 3 ingredients. Ditch the store-bought bottles, and make your own right at home- it's just as easy!

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS EASY DRINK

  • It's completely sugar free
  • Only needs 3 ingredients
  • Great to serve to kids or at parties
  • Can be made in 10 minutes
  • Wonderful healthy drink for summertime

WHAT YOU NEED FOR SUGAR FREE LEMONADE

ingredients for sugar free lemonade labeled with black text.
  • Lemons: Fresh squeezed lemon juice is the best way to go! However, bottled lemon juice will work if you're looking for convenience
  • Monk Fruit: This is how to make sure the lemonade is sugar free. My favorite brands to use are Whole Earth or Lakanto
  • Water: Used to make the simple syrup, as well as the base for the lemonade

  1. Start by making a sugar free simple syrup by heating equal parts monk fruit and water over medium heat. Cook the syrup until the monk fruit is dissolved.
  2. Take the syrup off the flame and let it cool down for 5 minutes
  3. When the simple syrup is cooled, juice the lemons into a glass measuring cup
  4. Pour the lemon juice, 6 cups of water, and the simple syrup into a pitcher. Stir to combine, serve immediately or chill till ready

RECIPE VARIATIONS

If you want, you could try one of the following recipes and put a fun twist on your healthy, homemade lemonade!

  • Add ¼ cup of raspberry puree
  • Do half lime juice and half lemon juice
  • Add in ¼ cup of strawberry puree
  • Steep 1 tablespoon of lavender in the syrup for 2 hours, strain, and add to lemon juice and water
  • Make lemonade popsicles instead!

MAKE AHEAD AND STORING INSTRUCTIONS

How far in advance can I make sugar free lemonade?

You can make it 1-2 days in advance and keep it in the fridge until you're ready to serve. Be sure to give it a stir before serving!

Storing healthy lemonade

This will stay good in the fridge for up to 7 days. I keep mine in a pitcher, and don't worry about covering it. Alternatively, you can keep it covered in a large mason jar (or jars) if that makes you feel better.

EXPERT TIPS FOR THE BEST LEMONADE

  • Only boil the simple syrup until the monk fruit is dissolved, and more and you run the risk of it hardening when cooled
  • Lemons give off more juice when they're room temperature
  • Adjust the sweetness to your taste, add more syrup if desired
  • Be sure to stir it before drinking, to make sure nothing has settled on the bottom
  • If serving immediately, serve over ice because it will still be a little warm from the syrup

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. What kind of lemons should I use? I use regular store-bought lemons, nothing fancy.
  2. Can lemonade be healthy? While regular lemonade has an average of 25 grams of sugar (that's 6 teaspoons!), this lemonade is made with monk fruit so it's completely sugar free.
  3. What other sweeteners can I substitute with? You can replace the monk fruit with Purecane or stevia.
  4. How much lemon juice does 1 lemon give? A typical lemon gives off 2-3 tablespoons of juice.
