Ingredients In Gluten Free Garlic Bread

- Gluten free bread: I like to use Schar's gluten free baguette, but any gluten free baguette, Texas toast, or brioche buns will work.
- Butter: I always suggest using a high quality, salted butter for best results
- Garlic: Fresh garlic is preferred because it results in the best flavor
- Parmesan cheese: You'll need grated parmesan cheese. You can grate your own or buy it from the grocery store
- Italian seasonings: The Italian seasonings add a nice herbaceous flavor
- Salt and pepper: Not a lot is needed, but I find it rounds out the flavor nicely
Substitutions
- Butter: You can use vegan butter instead
- Garlic: Jarred minced garlic or roasted garlic will also, but DO NOT use garlic powder
- Parmesan cheese: Substitute with pecorino romano or a vegan parmesan cheese
- Italian seasonings: You can use dried parsley instead if you don't have it
How To Make Gluten Free Garlic Bread: Step-by-step
1- Make the garlic butter
- In a small bowl, combined melted, slightly cooled butter, parmesan cheese, Italian seasonings, salt, and pepper

2- Cut the gluten free baguette
- On a cutting board, slice the gluten free baguette into 1 inch slices being sure not to cut all the way through

3- Prepare the garlic bread
- Use an offset spatula or small rubber spatula to carefully spread about 1 teaspoon of the garlic butter in between each slice of the baguette.
- Spread any extra generously over the top of the loaf
- Wrap tightly in aluminum foil

4- Bake and serve
- Bake at 400 degrees F for 15 minutes, then unwrap the top of the aluminum foil and bake for 4-5 more minutes to brown the top
- Serve immediately and enjoy

Serving Suggestions
Gluten free garlic bread works well with marinara sauce as an appetizer for game day or cocktail parties, but more often than not I just serve it as a family friendly side dish. Here's a few meals it pairs well with:
- Gluten free chili
- 4 ingredient potato soup
- Gluten free meatloaf
- Gluten free lasagna soup
- Meatballs without eggs
Tips For Making Gluten Free Garlic Bread
- Let the butter cool a bit after melting so it can form a wet paste
- Use high quality ingredients for the best flavor
- Mince your garlic well so you don't end up with big chunks. You can also smear it into a paste before adding it to the butter
- Grated parmesan blends best into the butter
- Don't cut all the way through your baguette, you want it like an accordion
- Open up the foil to brown and crisp up the top
- Serve immediately for best results
Recipe Variations
- Dairy Free: Substitute the butter with vegan butter and use a vegan parmesan or skip it entirely
- Cheesy: Add thin slices of gruyere in between each slice for extra cheesy goodness
- Crispy: You can make this crispy on all sides by slicing the baguette in half lengthwise, smearing the garlic butter on the inside of both halves and baking it at 400 F for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown

How To Make Ahead
Did you know you can prepare garlic bread ahead of time? You absolutely can, and it turns out delicious every time.
To make it ahead of time, make the garlic butter, cut the bread and spread the garlic butter in between each slice. Wrap in aluminum foil and store in the fridge until you're ready to cook.
Storing And Freezing
STORING: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Do not store it in the fridge or else the bread will dry out.
REHEATING: To reheat, wrap your desired slices in aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees F for 5-7 minutes until heated through.
FREEZING: You can also freeze cooked, homemade garlic bread and have it whenever the craving hits. Once cooked, let it cool completely and store in a freezer bag in the freezer for up to 2 months. When you want a slice, let it thaw at room temperature and bake at 300 degrees F for 5-7 minutes until crisp and warmed throughout.
Frequently Asked Questions
Personally, I like the gluten free baguette from Schar because it toasts nicely on the outside and stays chewy in the middle. You could also use Against The Grain which has a nice flavor.
In a pinch, gluten free Texas Toast or gluten free brioche buns are also delicious.
Regular Texas Toast garlic bread is not gluten free, but Katz makes a variety that is.
Absolutely you can! Just substitute the butter with vegan butter and skip the parmesan cheese or use a dairy free parmesan and this garlic bread is dairy free as well.
There's a few tricks for making the best homemade garlic bread:
1. Use quality ingredients. Because the recipe is so straightforward there's nothing to hide behind, so quality goes a long way in making this delicious appetizer.
2. Make it with fresh garlic. Garlic powder just doesn't pack the same punch
3. Wrap in aluminum foil and bake to keep the middle of the baguette buttery and soft
