WHAT YOU NEED FOR AIR FRYER CARAMELIZED BANANAS
- Bananas: You want the bananas to be ripe, but not too ripe. They should still hold together and not be mushy when slicing
- Coconut sugar: I use this to keep this healthy snack completely refined sugar free, but you could also use brown sugar
- Cinnamon: Tastes SO good on the caramelized banana slices
HOW TO AIR FRY BANANAS
- On a small cutting board, slice bananas into ¼ inch thick rounds and place in a single layer in your air fryer basket
- In a small bowl mix together coconut sugar and cinnamon, and use your fingers to sprinkle a little bit on the top of each slice
- Set the air fryer temperature to 400 degrees f and cook for 3-4 minutes until the tops are lightly golden brown
- Use a flat spatula or a fork to remove the banana slices and enjoy!
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
What I really love about this recipe is how versatile the bananas are! They make a tasty treat as is, or you can add them to other recipes as an incredible topping! Here's a few creative ways to use them the whole family will enjoy
- In a yogurt parfait made with layers of vanilla yogurt, granola, and bananas (one of my favorite ways!)
- On top of pancakes, French toast, or waffles instead of maple syrup
- You can add them to your peanut butter toast
- Make blueberry, banana oatmeal and use them as a sweet topping
- Over vanilla ice cream would be DELICIOUS...especially with chocolate syrup and raspberry sauce
- As a healthy snack with some whipped cream
- Drizzle chocolate syrup or melted peanut butter over them
- Add a layer to air fryer s'mores
- Top your healthy banana coffee cake with extra bananas!
While all of those recipes are so good, you could also spice up the bananas on their own and make variations of them. Switch out the cinnamon for any one of these spices and you've got another delicious way to enjoy bananas with only 3 simple ingredients.
- Nutmeg
- Cardamom
- Pumpkin pie spice
- Apple pie spice
- Allspice
- Ginger
EXPERT TIPS FOR THE BEST AIR FRYER BANANAS
- Spray the basket of the air fryer with olive oil or avocado oil cooking spray to prevent sticking
- There's no need to use oil on top of the bananas, the sugar mixture sticks just fine without it
- Try not to cut super thick pieces of banana
- Use bananas that are ripe, but still firm. Overripe bananas are too mushy
- You want the air fryer bananas to be soft and cooked through, but not mushy
- Use a fork or flat spatula to easily remove them from the air fryer
FAQs
You can, but I don't find it necessary. The bananas don't make a huge mess and the basket can easily just be wiped out once it's cooled.
This recipe is best when fresh, but you can keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Nope! There's no need to preheat it, just add the bananas and cook.
