Roasting garlic in the air fryer is one of the easiest ways to add so much flavor to your favorite dishes. It's simple, needs 2 main ingredients, and takes just 25 minutes to make!

Roast the garlic until browned and caramelized and use in any of your favorite recipes. You can substitute regular garlic with roasted garlic, use it in salad dressings, meatballs, or even delicious pasta recipes.

ingredients to make air fryer roasted garlic labeled with black text.
  • Garlic: You'll need the whole head of garlic, not just separated cloves.
  • Avocado oil: I use avocado oil because it has a higher smoke point and a neutral flavor that won't inhibit the sweetness of roasted garlic. You can use olive oil though.
  • Salt: Just a tiny pinch of salt really helps to enhance the flavor, however you can leave it out if you would rather.

How To Make Air Fryer Roasted Garlic

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F
  2. On a cutting board, use a sharp knife to slice ¼ inch of of the top of a head of garlic. Repeat with remaining garlic
  3. Place the sliced garlic heads onto 3 separate sheets of aluminum foil and drizzle 1 tablespoon of oil over each one. Divide the salt evenly between them and use your hands to rub it in well
  4. Wrap each head up and place them into the air fryer basket
  5. Cook for 25-28 minutes, or until the garlic is soft and caramelized
  6. Take the air fryer roasted garlic out and allow it to cool completely before using in your favorite recipes

Do I Have To Use Foil To Roast Garlic In The Air Fryer?

Yes, you do have to wrap the garlic in foil in order to roast it. Otherwise, the heads will dry out and can even burn.

The foil acts as a barrier from the heat and allows the garlic to roast evenly and get nice and soft. It also makes for easier clean up!

Storing and Freezing Instructions

STORING: You can store leftover roasted garlic in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

FREEZING: Let the garlic cool completely, then remove the skins and lay the bulbs in a single layer on a parchment lined baking sheet. Flash freeze for 1 hour, then take the tray out of the freezer and place the frozen garlic into a freezer safe bag. Return the bag to the freezer and it will freeze well for up to 3 months.

Why Is It Better To Roast Garlic In The Air Fryer Rather Than The Oven?

I wouldn't say roasting garlic in the air fryer is necessarily better than the oven, but it does have it's perks! The air fryer cooks faster, is more compact than heating up the entire oven, and uses less electricity.
