WHAT IS BAKED OATMEAL?

Baked oatmeal is pretty much what the name implies. It's oatmeal that has been baked (or in this case air fried) instead of being made on the stove or in the microwave. Air fryer baked oats are blended before they're cooked which will create a more cake-like texture as opposed to lumpy oatmeal.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE AIR FRYER BAKED OATS

insgredients for air fryer baked oatmeal labeled with black text.
  • Oats: You want to use old fashioned oats or rolled oats for this recipe
  • Banana: The banana acts as a binder and helps to sweeten the oats
  • Maple syrup: Make sure you use pure maple syrup for the best flavor
  • Peanut butter: Peanut butter adds a healthy fat which will also help to tenderize the crumb of your air fryer baked oats
  • Jelly: My favorite to use is strawberry, but any kind of jelly you like will work
  • Almond milk: In order to keep this recipe vegan, I use a small amount of almond milk to add necessary moisture
  • Baking powder: This is the leavening agent that will allow the oats to rise and cook properly
  • Vanilla extract: Vanilla rounds out the flavor and also help to sweeten

Variations:

  • Use honey or date syrup instead of maple syrup
  • Switch out the peanut butter for almond or cashew butter, or even Nutella
  • Substitute the jelly with cream cheese or a dollop of peanut butter
  • Add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
  • Use ¼ cup of applesauce instead of the banana
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips into the batter
  • Top with fresh fruit and granola

FAQs

Is baked oatmeal healthy?

Yes, baked oatmeal is very healthy. Oats are a fantastic whole grain that is naturally gluten free and full of fiber and other important nutrients. In addition to the oats, bananas are highly nutritious, peanut butter adds a healthy fat, and maple syrup is a healthy alternative to refined sugar.

So all in all, baked oatmeal is a very nutritious breakfast that will start your day off on the right foot!

Can I use steel cut oats?

No, this recipe will only work with old fashioned oats or rolled oats. Steel cut oats are much harder and have a more toothsome, chewy texture that will not work in this recipe.

Can I use oat flour?

Yes, if you want to substitute the oats with oat flour you can. It's a 1:1 swap, so you will need 1 cup of oat flour for this recipe.

What size ramekin should I use?

I used an 8 ounce ramekin and was able to make 2 servings.

What do air fryer baked oats taste like?

They're almost like eating cake for breakfast! This particular has a peanut butter and jelly vibe because of the peanut butter in the batter and the sweet jelly center.

EXPERT TIPS

  • Use rolled or old fashioned oats
  • Add more maple syrup if you want yours to be sweeter
  • Grease your ramekin so there's no concern of the oats sticking
  • Cook until a toothpick comes out clean
  • Let cool for 5 minutes before eating
  • Enjoy immediately, these do not store well

STORING AND REHEATING

Air fryer baked oats are best when they're served fresh, but if you must store them you can wrap the ramekin tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and keep in the fridge for 2 days.

When you are ready to eat these again, just take off the covering and microwave it for 30-60 seconds and enjoy!
