Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Air fryer apples are the BEST thing ever! Warm, tender apple slices coated in a buttery maple sauce with hints of cinnamon taste just like apple pie filling, except they're done in 10 minutes. These incredible air fried apples are gluten free, refined sugar free, and taste delicious served over a fluffy pancakes or a scoop of ice cream.

If you need a healthier, yet still super easy, snack or dessert recipe then these air fryer apples are exactly what you're looking for. They're so rich and buttery, yet still healthy, gluten free, and refined sugar free.

They taste just like apple pie filling, but are ready in 10 minutes and won't cause the headache and stress of baking an entire pie! You just need 4 pantry staple ingredients, one bowl, and your air fryer to whip up this yummy treat.

You can eat these as is right out of the air fryer, or serve over toast or french toast for a cozy, fall inspired breakfast. They're also great mixed into a big bowl of Greek yogurt for a snack, or a creamy scoop of vanilla ice cream for a simple, yet impressive dessert.

No matter how you serve them, I just know you're going to fall in love with this recipe. I mean, it's quick, simple, needs less than 5 ingredients, and results in the most tender, buttery, sweet apples. What's not to love?!

  • Healthy, refined sugar free, and gluten free
  • Great for a healthier dessert or quick, sweet snack

WHAT YOU NEED FOR AIR FRYER APPLES

ingredients for air fryer apples labeled with black text.
  • Apples: I suggest using a crisp apple like a Pink Lady for these because they hold their shape when cooking
  • Butter: Salted butter is best for these fried apples to help balance the sweetness
  • Maple syrup: Always use pure maple syrup to keep the recipe refined sugar free as well as give it the best flavor
  • Cinnamon: The warm flavors that come from cinnamon really round out the whole flavor and make them taste like apple pie filling!

THE BEST KIND OF APPLES TO USE

Just like apple pie, the best kind of apples to use are ones that are crisp and firm and hold their shape while cooking without breaking down into mush. I prefer to use Pink Lady, Honey Crisp, Fuji, or Jonagolds.

Granny Smith apples are crunchy and will work, but personally think they're a little too tart for this recipe.

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST AIR FRYER APPLES

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees F and spray the basket with avocado oil spray
  2. While the air fryer is preheating, peel your apples and cut them into thin slices
  3. Place the prepared apple slices into a large bowl and drizzle over 3 teaspoons of melted butter, 1 tablespoon of maple syrup, and cinnamon
  4. Stir the apples well to ensure everything is well coated, then pour them into your hot air fryer basket
  5. Cook at 380 F for 7-8 minutes until tender
  6. In a clean, large bowl place your air fried apples and drizzle over the remaining 1 teaspoon of melted butter and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
  7. Stir to coat them in the sweet, buttery sauce, serve, and enjoy!

EXPERT TIPS

  • Use a firm, crunchy type of apple
  • Be sure to peel your apples
  • Cut the apple slices into equal thicknesses so they cook evenly
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg and salt for extra flavor
  • Substitute the butter for melted coconut oil to make vegan and dairy free air fryer apples
  • Best enjoyed within 30 minutes of cooking

WHAT TO SERVE WITH AIR FRYER APPLES

Personally, I can eat these as is with no extras whatsoever because they're THAT GOOD. However, if you want to enjoy them as part of a balanced breakfast or snack, or as a sweet treat, here's a few suggestions.

Breakfast:

  • Spread vanilla yogurt on a slice of toast and top with your air fried apples
  • Enjoy over fluffy pancakes or french toast
  • Use as a cozy oatmeal topping

Snack:

  • To a bowl of Greek yogurt, add the apples and a sprinkle of homemade granola
  • Enjoy your sweet apples alongside a plate of veggies and hummus for a filling snack

Dessert:

  • Pour the hot, buttery apples over a bowl of vanilla ice cream (my favorite way!)
  • Add the apples to a ramekin and top with homemade streusel topping for a quick and easy apple crisp

STORAGE SUGGESTIONS

I highly recommend enjoying air fried apples within 30 minutes of cooking them. That's when they have the most flavor and are the best version of this recipe.

If you have to store leftover, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge and 2-3 days and microwave in a microwave safe bowl with a smidge more of maple syrup to reheat.
